"Gang Shooting Claims 23 Year Old Victim’s Life"

Los Angeles – Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of Nestor Hernandez, a male Hispanic 23 years of age.

On May 25, 2000, at approximately 2:25 a.m., the victim was with a group of friends standing on the southwest corner of Park View Street and Ocean View Avenue. Two to three suspects approached on foot southbound on Park View Street and opened fire on the victim. An exchange of gunfire took place between the two rival groups. As a result of the shooting, the victim sustained multiple gunshots and was pronounced dead at the scene by the responding paramedics.

The suspects fled southbound on Park View Street where they car-jacked a vehicle from a pregnant female victim who was returning home. The suspects then fled northbound Park View Street to eastbound Ocean View Avenue.

The stolen vehicle is described as a blue 1987 Geo Spectrum, two doors with a California plate of 3GGT127. Anyone observing the vehicle should contact the local police department immediately.

The suspects are described as two to three male Hispanics between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two. The weapons used in this crime are believed to be handguns. All the weapons are outstanding.

The motive for this crime is believed to be gang related.
