"Gang Shooting Claims 24 Year Old Victim’s Life"

Los Angeles – On Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at 4:35 p.m., victim Gerardo B. Fajardo, 24-years of age, was with his wife and sister-in-law in the 200 block of 68th Street. The victim parked his vehicle at the south curb and as he exited his vehicle, he was approached by one suspect. The suspect said something to the victim, produced a small handgun and fired several rounds at the victim. The victim turned and ran approximately seventy feet before collapsing.

The victim was transported to MLK/Drew Medical Center where he failed to respond the treatment and pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m.

Witnesses in the area reported that the suspect parked his vehicle, a blue station wagon on the corner of 68th Street and San Pedro Street and walked toward the victim. After the shooting, he fled on foot east on 68ht Street and north on San Pedro Street. A vehicle possibly abandoned by the suspect was recovered and impounded.

The suspect is described as a young male Black.

The motive appears to be gang related.
