Gang shooting Investigation in Newton Area

Los Angeles: On Sunday, August 5, 2001, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Jesus Morales, 19 years old, was riding in the rear seat of a vehicle being driven by a friend. As they were traveling westbound on 49th Street approaching Compton Avenue, the driver stated he heard two gunshots. Morales received gunshot wounds. The driver drove Morales to a local hospital where he subsequently transferred to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. Morales remains hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head and he is listed in critical condition.
No suspects have been identified and no suspects’ description is available at this time.
The motive appears gang related.
