Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Pedestrian While Walking Dog

Sherman Oaks: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Valley Traffic Detectives (VTD) are investigating a hit-and-run traffic collision that killed an elderly man in his 80’s and his dog while out for a walk.

On January 27, 2026, around 11:35 p.m., a 2009 Gray Maserati Quattroporte was traveling northbound on Woodman Avenue passing Moorpark Street when it struck an elderly male pedestrian who was crossing Woodman Avenue with a dog. The hit-and-run vehicle continued northbound Woodman Avenue without stopping, identifying themselves, or rendering aid as required by law. The vehicle was abandoned near the area of the collision and is in police custody.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the male pedestrian in grave condition to a local hospital and he later died as a result of the injuries sustained. His name is being withheld until a notification has been made to his next of kin.

VTD Detectives are urging the public to come forward with information regarding this fatal hit-and-run. If you were driving on Woodman Avenue and Moorpark Street on Tuesday night around 11:35 p.m., and/or witnessed the collision, please contact VTD Detectives with any information you may have.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
