Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are investigating a hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a bicyclist.
On April 25, 2026, around 10:50 p.m., a man was riding his bicycle near the intersection of 36th Street and 5th Avenue when he was struck by a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, identify themselves and render aid as required by law, and fled the scene.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the victim deceased at scene. The victim is described as a 38-year-old male. His identity of the is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
