Hit-and-Run Leaves Pedestrian Deceased

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are investigating a hit-and-run traffic collision that left a 50-year-old man dead.

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, around 9:30 p.m., the victim was crossing in a crosswalk near the corner of Western Avenue and 82nd Street, when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, identify themselves, and render aid as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the victim deceased at scene. The victim has been identified as Javier Tamayo, a resident of Los Angeles.

Investigators are searching for a tan, GMC SUV with LED lights on the running boards. The vehicle was last seen eastbound on 81st Street from Western Avenue.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
