Hit and Run Suspect Arrested

April 13, 2001

Los Angeles: On Thursday, April 12, 2001 at approximately 11:11 a.m., 66 year old Rosaura Trejos Rocha of Los Angeles was standing on the N/W sidewalk of Beverly Boulevard and Union Avenue when she was struck by a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass that was being driven by Sanasar Shameyan.
This collision was the result of another collision that occurred in the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Union Avenue, when Mr. Shameyan vehicle was struck by a 1986 Ford LTD driven by Luis Ramos. Mr. Ramos while attempting to negotiate a left turn from E/B Beverly Boulevard to N/B Union Avenue collided with the left side of Mr. Shameyan’s vehicle causing it to travel out of control in a N/W direction. Mr. Shameyan’s vehicle then ran off the roadway where it collided with a tri-light traffic control standard, Mrs. Rosaura Trejos Rocha, and Mr. Joaquin Lopez a 61 year old resident of Los Angeles. Mrs. Rocha sustained extensive head and chest blunt force trauma and later died as a result of her injuries at California Hospital. Mr. Lopez sustained a 3" contusion to his forehead along with minor injuries to his back and legs. Mr. Lopez was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was treated by the emergency room staff and released. Mr. Ramos fled from the scene of the traffic collision without identifying himself or rendering aid to the injured parties from the traffic collision, in violation of 20001(a) VC. After an extensive search on Thursday and on Friday morning, Mr. Ramos contacted Central Traffic detectives and advised them that he was ready to turn himself in.
Mr. Ramos was ultimately arrested and booked for 20001(a) VC (Felony Hit and Run).
This case is pending with the District Attorney’s Office for filing of one count of 20001(a) VC, and one count of 192 PC (Manslaughter).
