Hit and Run Suspect Sought

Los Angeles: On February 3, 2002, at approximately 12:35 a.m., a fatal, hit and run, auto vs. pedestrian traffic collision occurred on Arlington Avenue and 25th Street in Southwest area. The collision occurred when the deceased, Nicolas Diaz, 49 years of Los Angeles, attempted to cross Arlington Avenue westbound in the unmarked crosswalk. As Diaz crossed westbound on Arlington Avenue, he was struck by a van traveling southbound.
The driver of the van, however, failed to stop, render aid, or call for emergency medical assistance. A witness to the collision described the van as a possible Ford, red or blue in color. Unfortunately, the witness was unable to obtain the van’s license plate number.
On Thursday, February 7, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., South Traffic Detectives will be conducting a press conference at the crime location to seek the community’s assistance in locating the hit and run suspect.
The Detective assigned to the investigation will be accompanied at the press conference by members of the victim’s family, and a Spanish speaking officer will also be present to provide information to the Spanish media.
