Hollywood: The Hollywood community and police are safeguarding their own freedoms and liberties against urban terrorists by keeping their neighborhoods free from graffiti.
Graffiti is a form of urban terrorism; it creates fear, destroys property and fuels the criminal motives of violent, organized street gangs.
Hollywood’s desire to become a zero tolerance gang graffiti zone is closer to reality due to donations from the residential and business communities whose generous contributions have purchased a new Graffiti Paint Truck. During the last months, the Hollywood Police Support Association hired a solicitation firm with the vision of raising enough funds to rid this community of graffiti. The Hollywood Beautification Team will add this new truck to their fleet to paint out graffiti within 24 hours.
By ridding the community of unsightly graffiti, community spirit is energized and the process of restoring peace and order to our neighborhoods begins. With gang crime on the rise, the community/police partnership is crucial and this is one example of community based policing in action. The community/police partnership is strong and we are fighting back. We are fighting back to keep our area free of gang graffiti, while maintaining a safe and clean environment in which to live, work and visit.
On Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., a check will be presented to the Hollywood Beautification Team with the Graffiti Paint Truck on site.
