Homicide Investigation

Los Angeles – On Friday, April 6, 2001 at approximately 11:30 P.M., a male Hispanic victim, later identified as Robert Hernandez, was being pursued by a male Hispanic suspect who was armed with an unknown type handgun. As the men reached the 1900 block of South San Pedro Street, the victim sought refuge from a security guard, Alex Chavez, at the El Gato Bravo bar. The suspect shot and wounded both the victim and the security guard.
Robert Hernandez and Alex Chavez were transported to USCMC where Hernandez later died from multiple gunshot wounds. Alex Chavez received a gunshot wound to his leg and was listed in stable condition.
The motive for this crime has not been established. The suspect has not been identified.
