Homicide Investigation in Sylmar

Los Angeles: On Monday, April 01, 2002, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Shots Fired " on the 15000 block of Nurmi Street in Sylmar. Responding LAPD officers were directed by witnesses to a crime scene in front of that location.
Witnesses indicated they heard gunshots and observed the victim lying outside the front door of his residence. No suspects were seen.
The victim was shot numerous times in the upper torso. The shooting victim, a 23-year-old resident of Sylmar expired at the scene. The name of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
The motive is unknown. The suspects and weapon are not in custody.
