Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an In-Custody Death (ICD) that occurred in Central Area.
On October 2, 2025, at around 10:15 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department uniformed officers working a Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) overtime detail, were flagged down by private contract security officers for a private person’s arrest of a Trespass suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Carlton Callins, who was refusing to leave Union Station.
During the arrest, the officers utilized firm grips to effect the arrest and handcuff Callins. Callins was transported and booked at Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), where he remained housed for the next two days.
On October 4, 2025, at around 1:25 a.m., Callins complained he was having difficulty breathing and experiencing medical distress. A rescue ambulance was summoned, and the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and transported Callins to a local hospital. Despite life saving measures, Callins was pronounced deceased.
No officers or other community members were injured.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded and are investigating this incident.
