In-Custody Death (ICD) NRF006-22dm

On February 15, 2022, at around 2:30 p.m., Pacific Area Patrol Division officers conducted a stop on the arrestee, in the area of Tuller Avenue and Venice Boulevard. During the stop, the arrestee was identified to have an outstanding felony warrant for vandalism and placed under arrest. At around 3:00 p.m., officers transported the arrestee to Pacific Police Station for processing and housing.

The arrestee was booked into Pacific Station Jail and housed in Cell J1. The arrestee was the only occupant of the cell during this incident.

On the morning of February 16, 2022, at round 6:30 a.m., the arrestee was observed on the jail’s Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system in medical distress and possibly under the influence of narcotics. At 6:38 a.m., the arrestee ceased to move. At 8:28 a.m., the arrestee was discovered nonresponsive by Pacific Jail staff. Jail staff immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts on the arrestee with negative results. A rescue ambulance (RA) was requested, LAFD personnel pronounced the arrestee deceased at scene.

Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the scene and are investigating the In-Custody Death.
