Los Angeles – On Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Terry Walter Johnson, a sports writer for The Antelope Valley Press was en route to Dodger Stadium for a baseball game. While southbound on Sepulveda Boulevard, he crossed over the double yellow line and was on the wrong side of the road when he became involved in a minor collision with two other cars. After the initial impact, he continued southbound off the roadway and down an embankment where his car came to rest with a fence. California Highway Patrol officers responded and broke the window to gain access to the car. The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and could not revive Johnson and pronounced him dead at the scene at 5:30 p.m. Johnson had bypass surgery years ago and recently had complained of chest pain. The Coroners autopsy is pending to establish cause of death.
