Kidnap/Rape Occurs in West Los Angeles Area

KIDNAP/ RAPE INVESTIGATION

West Los Angeles Detectives are investigating a kidnap/rape incident that occurred at approximately 1:30 hours on March 18, 1999, near the intersection of Gayley and Le Conte in the UCLA/ Westwood area.

The victim stopped her vehicle to the rear alley of 1057 Gayley to pick up food at a local establishment. Upon returning to her vehicle, the suspect entered the unlocked passenger side of the vehicle and subdued the victim by striking her numerous times about the face and body. The suspect then drove the victim’s vehicle to an unknown location where he sexually assaulted the victim in the rear seat of the vehicle.

After being driven back to the Westwood area, the victim was able to escape into a minimart located at Gayley and LeConte. The suspect followed the victim into the minimart, where his photo was captured on videotape. While the suspect was inside the store, he struggled with the victim before fleeing the scene alone in the victim’s vehicle.

The victim’s vehicle is still outstanding and is described as a 1980, brown over tan, 4-door, Cadillac, License No.1LQY989. The suspect is described as a Male, African American, approximately 5’10" to 6’00" tall, 180 to 190 pounds, 25-30 years, hair styled in four "corn rows" and has a light mustache with a beard along his jawline.

West Los Angeles, Operations-Support Division will be conducting a press conference in front of West Los Angeles Area Community Police Station at 5:00 PM on March 18, 1999.
