LAPD and LASD Join Forces to Keep Guns Off the Streets

Los Angeles – On Friday, July 6, 2001, at 9:00 A.M., the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department (LASD) will engage in the destruction of approximately 15,000 confiscated guns. The perennial destruction of weapons is part of the strategic effort in gun violence reduction, as these law enforcement agencies move forward in their relentless pursuit to ensure for the safety and security of the people in the communities they serve.
Los Angeles Chief of Police, Bernard C. Parks, and Los Angeles County Sheriff, Lee Baca, will be present for the gun meltdown. Of particular importance is the fact that these Departments’ efforts in this arena are community-based. Also present at this event will be Nico and Theo Milonopoulos, Co-Founders of Kidz Voice-LA.
These weapons will be destroyed at TAMCO Steel, located at 12459 Arrow Highway, in the City of Rancho Cucamonga. The molten material will be used for making rebar. Ironically, TAMCO Steel is the major supplier of rebar for the Alameda Rail Corridor Project, thus, these objects of destruction will be turned into objects of construction.
