LAPD Captures Woman’s Killer

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 41 year-old woman.
On October 2, 2002 at approximately 6:10 p.m., Los Angeles resident Hattie Yvonne Shields was socializing with acquaintances inside a residence located on the 5000 block of south Normandie Avenue. Witnesses said that Shields and a 35 year-old male began to argue and the conflict escalated into gunfire.
Shields was shot in the head and died at the scene. The suspect fled from the incident scene and hid in a nearby backyard. Several residents from the adjacent area called police and reported a prowler lurking within the neighborhood. An LAPD K-9 unit responded to the scene, and with the assistance of 77th Area officers, the suspect was arrested. No weapon was recovered and the suspect, at the time of this release, was not booked for the murder of Shields.
