LAPD Conducting Investigation of Missing Oscars

Los Angeles – On Tuesday, March 14, 2000, the Los Angeles Police Department received information that a shipment of 55 Oscars intended for the upcoming Academy Awards presentation were missing from an undetermined location believed to be in the Los Angeles area. A number of detectives from Burglary Auto-Theft Division were assigned to the case. It was subsequently learned that the Oscars were last seen at a trucking terminal in the City of Bell. The shipment was contained in ten boxes weighing approximately 50 pounds each.

The Department has learned that a trucking company is offering a $50,000 reward related to this investigation. Members of the public wishing to provide information, including anonymous information, should call 213-485-2505.

Burglary Auto-Theft Division is continuing to handle this investigation for the Los Angeles Police Department. Burglary Auto-Theft personnel are not available to respond to general inquiries regarding this case.
