LAPD Crime Lab Accreditation Ceremony and Open House

Why:
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Scientific Investigative Division, Criminalistics Laboratory, will receive their Certificates of Accreditation as a Forensic Science Testing and Forensic Science Calibration laboratory from the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board. Immediately following the ceremony,   
refreshments will be served and the laboratory will have an open house until 2:00 p.m. for visitors to tour the various crime lab units.

The Criminalistics Laboratory was first accredited in 1998, and re-accredited in 2005 and 2009, as a forensic laboratory, under the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) Legacy Program.  The term of accreditation is typically five years and, in the most recent 2014 cycle, the lab was accredited under a new set of standards.  As of May 29, 2014, ASCLD/LAB conferred upon the LAPD Scientific Investigation Division, Criminalistics Laboratory, Certificates of Accreditation in the fields of Forensic Science Testing and Forensic Science Calibration. In order to achieve these certifications, the laboratory met or exceeded over 800 requirements.
