Notice to Media Outlets

When:
Effective Immediately

Who:
Commander Andrew J. Smith, Media Relations and Community Affairs Group

Why:
As we are fast approaching the end of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to remind  you that the current Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) news media press passes will  expire at the end of 2013.  However, the staff at Media Relations is in the process of redesigning  the existing media credential to meet current security standards.  Due to the process of obtaining,  testing, and implementing the new equipment necessary to produce the new credentials, my staff  will be unable to facilitate the renewal process at this time.  All LAPD media credentials  currently used by your employees will continue to be honored for the next 90 days, beginning  January 1st of 2014.  It is anticipated that the new media credential will be produced and  implemented during this time period.  To assist with the facilitation of the renewal process once  the new media credential is produced, and in an effort to update our database with the most current information, it is requested that media outlets submit a list of existing media personnel in  need of a media credential renewal.

Additional:
For any new personnel who do not currently have credentials with the LAPD and wish to initiate the application process, please continue to utilize the existing procedures.
