"LAPD Officers Set-Up Sobriety & Drivers License Checkpoint in the L.A. Area"

Los Angeles – Every year the Los Angeles Police Department gathers statistical information on traffic collisions, arrests for driving under the influence (DUI), and Hit-&-Run traffic collisions. The Los Angeles Police Department, Central Traffic Division, will be utilizing a problem solving technique, directed toward reduction in these categories. Officers will monitor the combined sobriety and drivers license checkpoint. The focus of attention will be on education and enforcement of impaired and unlicensed drivers. The action of the Department is in response to numerous complaints by community members and patrol officers regarding traffic enforcement in DUI and Hit and Run Traffic collisions.

The Sobriety & Drivers License checkpoint will be held on Friday, May 19, 2000, at 8:00 P.M.:

Location: Broadway between 51st Street & 50th Street.

The majority of Hit & Run traffic collisions involve drivers that are under the influence and/or unlicensed drivers. Drinking and driving is unacceptable behavior that causes impairment to the driver, which may lead to property damage, injury and/or death. The Central Traffic Division strongly advises those persons choosing to go out and drink, to designate a sober driver. Unlicensed drivers are reminded that it is against the law to drive without a valid driver’s license.
