LAPD Sobriety Checkpoint

August 10, 2005

What:Sobriety Checkpoint
When:Friday, August 12, 20057:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Where:The checkpoint will be conducted along Ventura Boulevard between Colfax and Vineland Avenues.
Why:In the last six months, over three thousand drunk drivers have been arrested in the San Fernando Valley resulting in serious injury and death.  As a result, Valley Traffic Division will be operating a checkpoint in an effort to create public awareness and remove dangerous drivers from our city’s streets.
Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see informational signs advising them that a sobriety checkpoint is ahead.  Once diverted to a specific lane, motorists will be detained only a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.  Based on traffic volume all vehicles will be checked.  If traffic becomes congested, motorists will be selected by a preset standard (every 3rd or 5th vehicle) to assure neutrality.
For further information contact Valley Traffic Division, Sergeant Kirk at 818-756-8722.
