Los Angeles – – On the above date and time, the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD’s) Uniformed Services Group will be hosting a press conference to apprise the public of Department’s traffic enforcement plans for the holiday season. In light of the recent course of events, it is anticipated that a significant number of individuals will opt to utilize motor vehicles, to fulfill their travel plans, as opposed to flying.
With more motor vehicles on the roads will come the increased possibility that more individuals will choose to drive while under the influence (DUI) of alcoholic beverages and/or illegal substances. Just last year alone, for the period of January 1, 2001 to November 20,2001, Los Angeles police Officers made 13,000 DUI arrests.
Unfortunately, there is the high probability that the expected increase in vehicular traffic will be accompanied by an increase in traffic collisions. As of October 30, 2001, traffic collision in the City of Los Angeles resulted in 1,193 serious traffic collision; 176 of these cases resulted in fatalities.
It is the goal of the LAPD, through traffic enforcement and education, to reduce the number of traffic collision in the City, thereby improving traffic safety in the City of Los Angeles.
