WHAT: Granddaughter and LAPD will be surprising grandmother with funds that were raised by the community at the Senior Center she has volunteered at for over 20 years.

WHY: On November 7, 2015, during a birthday celebration, a 93-year-old grandmother’s purse was stolen from her chair inside a local restaurant. The victim and her family looked through the area for her purse and her precious belongings without luck. Upon hearing what happened, Captain Maureen Ryan and Senior Lead Officer Duc Dao, jumped into action and contacted the victim’s granddaughter to assist in replacing some of the stolen items.

On November 11, 2015, a GoFundMe account was set up to help recuperate some of the items that the 93-year-old victim lost. The story touched the hearts of the community just as it had touched Captain Ryan and Officer Dao. As a result of the overwhelming community support, the GoFundMe account has raised over $1,200 dollars.
