DETAILS:
Following the enactment of Assembly Bill 1314, known as the Feather Alert, the need to establish our inaugural Native American Leadership Academy emerged as a pivotal initiative. The academy was a collaborative venture with esteemed leaders from our Nation’s First People, aimed at cultivating meaningful partnerships. Following the academy’s completion on March 7, 2024, participants expressed a desire to continue these relationships through ongoing collaboration. The inception of the first Native American/Indigenous Community Police Advisory Board stemmed directly from the implementation of AB 1314, the Feather Alert, regarding MMIP (Missing and Murdered Indigenous People).

By sharing resources among community members, Native American/Indigenous stakeholders, and the LAPD, we are laying the groundwork for a cooperative effort. This synergy is intended to foster trust and build partnerships that are instrumental in addressing the critical issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, while also providing education and collaborative support for LAPD law enforcement personnel and community members.

Our collective engagement in this endeavor signifies an important step forward in building a foundation of mutual respect and collaboration, allowing us to make meaningful strides.
