Law Enforcement-Related Injury in Newton Division NRF055-25bb

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating a Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) that occurred in Newton Division.

On October 20, 2025, at around 6:35 p.m., plainclothes narcotic Detectives assigned to Newton Area observed a male, later identified as 29-year-old Tony Jackson, actively engaged in narcotics activity near the intersection of 50th Street and Central Avenue. Detectives initiated a stop, detained Jackson, and placed him in handcuffs when he suddenly fled on foot.

Following a short foot pursuit, a Detective caught up to Jackson and attempted to grab his shirt to prevent his escape. During this attempt, the Detective made physical contact with Jackson’s back, causing him to fall to the ground.

Jackson was taken into custody immediately following the fall. Due to visible injuries, he was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. He was later admitted for injuries sustained during the Use of Force incident. Jackson was arrested and charged with 11351.5 of the Health and Safety Code – Possession of Cocaine Base for Sale.

No officers or other community members were injured as a result of this incident.
