The Los Angeles Police Department was awarded a $960,276 grant from the California Highway Patrol Traffic Safety (OTS) to implement the DUI Apprehension Program. The proposed program will provide education, prevention and enforcement of impaired driving laws related to driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, including cannabis. The objective of the program is to improve public safety be increasing officer training, increase enforcement operations on dates and at locations where driving under the influence where driving under the influence of drugs is prevalent and conducting business community outreach.
The funding will further support our dedication and commitment to public safety in our community through increased training, enforcement and community outreach. The LADP will seek to reduce the number of drivers who drive under the influence of drugs and raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence.
The grant will provide additional programs and resources, including:
· DUI enforcement task forces focusing on suspected impaired drivers.
· Officer training at the California Narcotics Association Annual Conference and the International Association of the Chiefs of Police Conference on Drugs, Alcohol and Impaired Driving. driving, impaired driving, speeding and bicycle and pedestrian safety.
· Officer training and/or recertification: Impaired Driving Apprehension Program (IDAP), Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
· Outreach within the cannabis business community to raise awareness of DUI laws.
· Phlebotomy services that will assist with Driving Under the Influence investigations.
The grant program will conclude on September 30, 2026. Funding for this program was provided by a grant administered by the California Highway Patrol through the Cannabis Tax Fund Program.
