Los Angeles Police Department Mourns the Death of a Loved and Respected Detective NR14184sm

Beverly Hills:  On May 9, 2014, around 1:53 p.m., off-duty LAPD Southwest Detective, Ernest L.  Allen Sr. was involved in a traffic collision on Loma Vista Drive and Drury Lane.

The off-duty detective was driving his own private vehicle when he was struck by a large cement truck while traveling on Loma Vista Drive.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced Detective Allen dead at scene. The driver of the cement truck was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The traffic collision is being investigated by the Beverly Hills Police Department and the California Highway Patrol.

Detective Allen leaves behind his mother, two children, two grandchildren, a sister and fiance.  Detective Allen was a 27 year veteran of the department.  His past assignments include: 77th Street Area, Wilshire Area, Rampart Area and Southwest Area.
