Los Angeles Police Department Mourns the Death Of a Young & Respected Officer NR14332sm

Torrance:  On September 6, 2014, around 4:57 p.m., 24-year-old off-duty LAPD Southwest Patrol Officer, Erick Alcaraz, Serial No. 41284 was involved in a traffic collision on Western Avenue and 234th Street in the City of Torrance.

The off-duty officer was driving his own private motorcycle. He was traveling south on South Western Avenue when he collided with a vehicle that was negotiating a left turn from West 234th Street onto South Western Avenue.

Torrance Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced him dead at scene. The driver of the involved vehicle was not injured and was not transported to a hospital.

The traffic collision is being investigated by Torrance Police Department.

Officer Alcaraz leaves behind his mother and father. He was a Marine Corps veteran and an 18 month veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. Officer Alcaraz had just completed his one-year probation at Southwest Patrol Division.  Today would have been his first day assigned to the West LA Area.
