Los Angeles: Watts Project Literacy Action Network (PLAN), in conjunction with Mayor James K. Hahn, will launch the "Make a Difference, Watts Book Drive" on October 1, 2001 to October 21, 2001. Watts PLAN is a collaboration of LAPD Southeast Community Police Station, the Los Angeles Fire Department and various government, public and private sector organizations. People are encouraged to donate new books that will be distributed among local schools and libraries in the community. Book drop-off sites are conveniently located at all 103 City of Los Angeles Fire Department Stations.
The book drive is part of the nationwide "Make a Difference Day" campaign which encourages people all over the United States to get involved in their communities and to help others.
The book drive will culminate in a Job and Literacy Fair at Watts Towers on Saturday, October 27, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
