Los Angeles: On April 22, 2023, around 12:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department Central Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of a “Suspicious Death Investigation” in the 1200 block of South Hope Street, at an apartment complex.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 29-year-old Amy Albeno-Mendoza, a resident of Los Angeles, deceased. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office was notified and, upon examination of Albeno-Mendoza’s body, discovered she had suffered a fatal stab wound. Los Angeles Police Department Central Bureau Homicide detectives assumed investigative responsibility for the case.
The investigation resulted in the identification of the suspect in this incident. On May 4, 2023, personnel from the LAPD/FBI Fugitive Task Force determined that the suspect had traveled to Phoenix, Arizona. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Robert Hughes, was located at a homeless shelter in Phoenix, where he was arrested for the Murder of Albeno-Mendoza. This case was filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
