August 6, 2021

Los Angeles: On July 29, 2021, the FBI National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) received a call from a male who said that he was being stalked by multiple gangs and they were threatening his life. He also relayed that he had access to pipe bombs and would use them to protect himself and his family.

This information was documented and provided to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). A multi-agency effort was initiated to identify and contact the caller to further investigate the phone call.

On July 30, 2021, Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) security personnel located a brown paper style grocery bag containing gasoline filled Molotov Cocktail devices on the Red Line rail platform located at Vermont Avenue & Santa Monica Boulevard.

Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Fire Department responded and began an investigation. Later, an anonymous call was received where the caller claimed to have seen a man put bombs on the rail platform.

LAPD detectives working in conjunction with the FBI, MTA, and LAFD investigators were able to link the two telephone calls and identify the caller.

The caller, a 47-year-old Frederick Brown, a resident of Los Angeles was located, questioned, and arrested on August 2, 2021.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing this case for filing consideration.
