Los Angeles: On March 29, 2021, approximately 6:20 p.m., Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Hollenbeck Division responded to a radio call of a battery suspect in the 1200 block of south Soto Street. Officers attempted to detain the suspect, but he became aggressive. The officers guided him to the ground where he was taken into custody. The incident was investigated as a Non-Categorical Use of Force (NCUOF).
On March 6, 2021 the incident was reviewed by the commanding officer of Hollenbeck division and it was requested that Force Investigation Division (FID) assess the incident due to the possibility of force being applied to the suspect’s neck during the incident.
After review of the Body Worn Video of the incident, and after consultation with the Office of the Inspector General, it was determined the case should be investigated by FID to determine if force was applied to the suspect’s neck. Force Investigation Division assumed investigative responsibility of the case and notified the Hollenbeck Area Commanding Officer of the change in the case status.
