May 2, 2003

Los Angeles: Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of 26 year-old, Jesus Galicia, a male Hispanic.
On Thursday, May 1, 2003, at 4:25 p.m., Galicia and a witness were driving southbound on St. Louis Street approaching 6th Street in the victim’s vehicle, a 1995 Toyota Camry. Galicia stopped for the posted stop sign at St. Louis Street and 6th Street, then made a left turn eastbound on 6th Street. Galicia immediately pulled to the south curb. At which time the witness exited the vehicle and began walking westbound to the corner of 6th Street and St. Louis Street. An unknown male Hispanic suspect, wearing a dark colored T-shirt, light colored blue shorts and approximately 18-25 years of age, approached Galicia’s location and fired several rounds, striking Galicia multiple times in the head and neck. Galicia collapsed behind the steering wheel and lost control of his vehicle, which then collided into the north curb on 6th Street where it came to rest. The suspect fled the location westbound to an unknown location.
Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedics transported Galicia to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The motive for the murder appears to be gang related.
