Man Shoots and Kills Step Daughters

September 5, 2006

Los Angeles: Los Angeles police detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who shot a step father at a family birthday party Saturday night. The step father had himself just shot and killed his two step daughters.

On September 2, 2006, around 8:20 p.m., Charlotte Johnson, 33, was attending her sister Sabrina Taylor’s 30th birthday party, at their mother’s home, in the 2000 block of West 84th Place. The sisters’ stepfather, Robert Phillips, 59, was also in attendance.

During the party, Phillips became angry with his wife over the type of music being played. He went to his car, which was parked in front of the house, and grabbed a handgun. He returned to the party and opened fire into the crowd. As they tried to run for safety, bullets struck Johnson in the head and Taylor in the chest. Phillips continued shooting until he ran out of bullets.

Phillips returned to his car to reload his handgun when an unknown guest at the party shot him. After being shot, Phillips went back to the house and continued shooting. He then walked into the garage and collapsed.

Charlotte Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. Sabrina Taylor was transported to a local hospital where she died a short time later. Phillips was also transported to a local hospital, received treatment for his injuries and was released to police custody.

Phillips was booked at Jail Division for 187(a) PC Murder and is being held on bail in the amount of $1 million.
