Man Shot on Street Late at Night

North Hills – On Saturday, January 6, 2001, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of shots being fired in the area of Memory Park Avenue and Gresham Street, in North Hills. Upon responding, the officers located a male Hispanic lying motionless in the roadway, on Gresham Street, west of Memory Park Avenue. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and pronounced the victim dead. The decedent had incurred multiple gunshot wounds in the upper body. The scene was secured and Homicide Detectives responded.
Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was in the area of Memory Park, one block south of Gresham Street. A confrontation of unknown origin with at least one male Hispanic ensued, resulting in the victim being chased and fired upon. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot from Gresham Street. He is described as a male Hispanic, 5’4", 160-170 pounds, mid 20’s, wearing dark clothing and armed with a handgun.
The victim is 26 years old. His identity is being withheld pending notification to his family. The motive for the slaying remains under investigation.
