"Motorist Shot and Left In Critical Condition"

Los Angeles – On Sunday, April 23, 2000 at 2:30 p.m., in the area of 54th Street and San Pedro Street, an altercation ensued between three males in a white, Chevy Van and two males in a red, unknown type vehicle. Both parties then left the location with no further incidents. At 2:40 p.m., the red vehicle drove through the parking lot of the "Food 4 Less Market", located at 54th Street and Main Street with five male occupants, the Chevy Van was also in the parking lot. One of the suspects got out of the red vehicle and the driver of the van exited also. An altercation began and words were exchanged between the victim and suspect. The suspect then armed himself with an unknown type semi-auto handgun and fired several rounds at the victim. The victim, a 39-year-old male, (name withheld pending notification of next of kin), sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and head. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

No suspects have been identified; two suspects in the red vehicle are described as two young male Hispanics. The suspects were last seen driving a small red, unknown type vehicle, last seen southbound on Main Street from 54th Street.
