Narcotics Suspect Injured During Altercation With Officer NRF009-20bm

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating a Categorical Use Of Force (UOF) which occurred in Hollenbeck Division.

On March 20, 2020, around 6:50 p.m., Hollenbeck Area officers observed a “hand to hand” narcotics sale and attempted to detain the suspects. One suspect fled on foot, resulting in a foot pursuit. At the termination of the foot pursuit, a UOF occurred that included the suspect, later identified as Jose Alberto Corona, being struck in the head. Corona was eventually subdued and taken into custody. The Officer involved in the Use of Force was identified as Police Officer II

Abel Cepeida, Serial No. 38386, Hollenbeck Gang Enforcement Detail (GED).

Corona was treated at scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics but refused further medical treatment. No officers were injured during this incident.

LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and is handling the administrative investigation, while Hollenbeck GED is handling the criminal investigation.
