WHY:
To educate the motoring public of the dangers of drinking and driving as well as to detect and remove those drivers who are impaired.  The goal is to reduce the number of injuries, deaths and property damage associated with impaired driving in our communities.

LAPD officers arrested 10,551 intoxicated drivers in 2009.  During this same time period there were 2,027 collisions involving impaired drivers in the City.

Funding for this D.U.I. sobriety checkpoint comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Los Angeles Police Department wants everyone to celebrate this New Year’s weekend responsibly.  If you become intoxicated, do not get behind the wheel of a car or motorcycle.  Use a designated driver or public transportation. Do not welcome the New Year in jail!
