Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge (NTUD)
Southeast Division
On May 9, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., an on-duty police officer assigned to Southeast Division was inside the lower level parking structure of the Compton Courthouse. The officer was standing outside of his patrol vehicle manipulating his personally owned patrol rifle, when a Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge occurred. The bullet struck the ceiling of the concrete structure and ricocheted, striking the roof of the officer’s unoccupied patrol vehicle. The bullet did not penetrate the police vehicle and was located on the ground nearby.
No officers or community members were injured as a result of this incident.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
