Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge (NTUD) NRF021-23mc

On May 13, 2023, around 4:30 p.m., an off-duty police officer assigned to Central Division was at a family member’s residence in the City of Ontario. The officer was cleaning his personally owned Department approved duty pistol in a bedroom. Once completed, the officer assembled and reloaded his pistol with duty ammunition. Several minutes later, the officer performed a function check of his pistol and inadvertently discharged one round, which lodged into the bedroom wall.

No one was injured during the incident.

On-duty personnel from the Ontario Police Department responded to the scene and completed an Incident Report.

Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives also responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
