Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge (NTUD) NRF057-22mc

On December 14, 2022, around 3:30 p.m., an on-duty Gang Enforcement Detail (GED) officer assigned to Newton Area had a Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge (NTUD) while in the lower level of the Newton Station parking structure.

The officer was standing next to his police vehicle when he inadvertently discharged one round from a recently purchased handgun, penetrating the driver’s side mirror and striking a concrete wall.

There were no other officers or civilians in the immediate area of the parking structure when the NTUD occurred. The Gang Impact Team (GIT) Lieutenant and the Newton Watch Commander were immediately notified.

No officers were injured.

Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
