On July 27, 2019, Police Officer II Juan Jose Diaz was murdered in a Lincoln Heights neighborhood while off duty. All requisite investigative and supporting forensic resources of the Los Angeles Police Department are committed to the diligent evaluation, analysis, and follow up of evidence related to this crime.

We are still canvassing for available video footage and looking for witnesses, and we have processed the crime scene with the hopes that evidence obtained will provide significant information and context into what happened. These evidentiary items are undergoing relentless follow up and the most thorough level of analysis.

The lead investigators assigned are experts from Robbery Homicide Division, whose detectives have been tirelessly following the strong and numerous leads from the public. The Department continues to encourage community members, business owners, residents, and those who may have frequented the area of Avenue 26 and Figueroa that evening to contact investigators. We continue to keep the Diaz family in our thoughts and prayers, while honoring Officer Diaz’s memory. The Los Angeles Police Department appreciates the ongoing support of Angelenos during this difficult time. Services for Officer Diaz are still pending.

Officer Diaz was last assigned to Professional Standards Bureau. We have garnered the talents of our dedicated men and women to the investigation and pursuit of justice.
