Off-duty Officer Foils Robbery at Barber Shop

Los Angeles: Last night, January 24, at 5:10 PM, off-duty LAPD Officer Hannu Tarjamo, 34-years-old, foiled a robbery when a man burst into the barber shop at 2845 Sunset Boulevard. The officer was waiting his turn for a haircut when an armed robber demanded money from the proprietor, who was cutting another man’s hair. An officer involved shooting occurred, and the robber was wounded. He stumbled out the door of the shop and collapsed. He later died at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital.

The robber was identified today as 20-year-old Robert Navarrette.

The officer’s wife, also an LAPD officer assigned to Southeast Area, was waiting in a truck in the parking lot. She was not directly involved in the shooting. Officer Tarjamo is assigned to Rampart Area and has 7 1/2 years of service with LAPD.

No one was injured in the incident, other than the robber.

This investigation is being handled by the Force Investigation Division of LAPD.
