Off-Duty Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation

Los Angeles: On Saturday, November 27, 2004, at approximately 2:00 a.m., an off-duty
Los Angeles Police officer was in the drive-up window at the “Carl’s Junior Restaurant” in the 10000 block of Whittier Boulevard. The officer heard gunshots and saw a male suspect running westbound on the north side of Whittier Boulevard with a handgun. The officer exited his vehicle and ordered the suspect to stop. The suspect pointed the handgun at the officer and an officer involved shooting occurred.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel responded to the scene and arrested two additional suspects.
It was later determined that the suspect had shot two victims at the “7-11 Store” located approximately 80 yards away from the location. Both victims were treated and released from a local hospital. The officer suffered a minor bruise to his left forearm during the incident. The suspect was taken to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center where he died from gunshot wounds. The suspect has not been identified.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Detectives are handling the criminal portion of the investigation and t he Los Angeles Police Department’s Force Investigation Division Detectives are conducting the administrative portion of the investigation.
