Los Angeles – On Saturday, April 28, 2001, at approximately 2:30 A.M., off-duty Los Angeles Police Sergeant Joseph Quinn of Transit Rail Division was driving northbound on the 5 Freeway approaching Buena Vista Street when he saw a traffic collision, and stopped to give aide.

The driver of a 1992 Honda Accord lost control of his vehicle, spun out of control, and collided into a 1997 Honda Accord on the 5 Freeway at Buena Vista Street. The 1992 Honda Accord immediately became engulfed in flames. Sgt. Quinn, without regard for his own safety, pulled the passenger from the burning vehicle. The passenger of the vehicle sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his head, neck, and both arms, and was transported to a local hospital.
Sergeant Joseph Quinn is a 13-year veteran with the Los Angeles Police Department, and is currently assigned to the Transit Rail Division. If it were not for the Sergeant’s dedication to duty, the citizen in the burning vehicle may not have survived.
