***Update on the Officer-Involved Shooting on June 19, 2015 in Los Feliz*** The officer involved in this OIS has been identified as Police Officer Cairo Palacios. Officer Palacios is a 9 year law enforcement veteran, and graduated from the Los Angeles Police Academy in 2006.

His partner is an 8 year Law Enforcement veteran and graduated from the Los Angeles Police Academy in 2007. Both officers previously served as sworn officers with the General Services Department, Office of Public Safety (OPS). In 2013, OPS merged with the LAPD and these officers successfully completed a 6-week classroom course at the LAPD Academy and a 3-month field certification before being assigned as LAPD officers in the Security Services Division. Security Services Division officers are primarily assigned to patrol city buildings and City parks including Griffith Park.

***Update*** Officer-Involved Shooting on June 19, 2015 in Los Feliz **The following information is based on a preliminary, ongoing investigation which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the incident may change as the investigation continues and additional evidence is collected and analyzed.**

Los Angeles: On Friday, June 19, 2015, at around 6:30 p.m., two uniformed police officers assigned to Security Services Division were stopped in traffic in their marked black and white police vehicle on Los Feliz Boulevard near Tica Drive.

The officers observed a male on the sidewalk walking towards them in an aggressive manner and pointing at them with his hands wrapped in a gray cloth. The officers exited their vehicle and believing that the male had a gun they order him to drop the gun. The male refused to comply with the officer’s commands at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the male Hispanic in his late 40’s to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

No officers were injured during this incident and no weapon was recovered at scene.

Force Investigation Division responded to the incident and will conduct a thorough investigation of the officer-involved-shooting.

The investigation will ultimately be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Office of the Inspector General and Board of Police Commissioners for compliance with the Departments use-of-force policy which states that an officer’s use-of-force actions must be objectively reasonable. Additionally, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division will conduct a comprehensive review of the facts of the officer-involved-shooting.
