The officers involved in the below incident have been identified as Police Officer II Francisco Zaragosa, Serial No. 39188; Detective I Jose Delgado, Serial No. 38179; Detective Huy Nguyen, Serial No. 39939; Detective II Joel Ruiz, Serial No. 35739 (all assigned Gang and Narcotics Division); and Police Officer III Derrick Boykins, Serial No. 40390 assigned Metropolitan Division.

Torrance: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) in the City of Torrance.

On April 18, 2024, around 3:43 a.m., Gang and Narcotics Division and Metropolitan Division plainclothes officers were assisting Juvenile Division detectives in the service of a felony arrest warrant at a residence in the 4800 block of Torrance Boulevard in the City of Torrance. The suspect, who resided at the location, was identified as Erick Franco-Sanchez. Franco-Sanchez observed the team of officers outside his home as officers and detectives prepared to serve the warrant. Franco-Sanchez armed himself with a handgun and fired at multiple officers and detectives from the residence, which resulted in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). Franco-Sanchez was struck by gunfire and surrendered to officers a short time later. Franco-Sanchez was transported by paramedics to a local hospital, where he received medical treatment. Franco-Sanchez was subsequently released and booked for 187(a) PC – Attempt Murder.

One officer who was struck by gunfire was treated at a local hospital for a graze wound to his arm and later released.

A handgun and ammunition were recovered from the scene of the OIS. No other community members were injured during this incident.

Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
