Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in West Valley Division.

On December 3, 2025, at around 8:10 a.m., West Valley Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of a male with mental illness at a residence in the 17200 block Valerio Street. Comments of the call indicated the subject had been diagnosed with a mental illness and was acting erratically toward his father inside the residence.

Upon arrival, the officers met with the subject’s brother, who explained he had responded after their mother called, fearing for their father’s safety. He further stated the subject had a history of violence toward their parents, including stabbing their father eight years earlier and assaulting their mother. The subject had also been confined to a mental health institution for several years due to these prior incidents. The officers requested additional units to assist and subsequently entered the residence.

Inside, they located the subject in the father’s bedroom, lying on top of his father on a bed while holding what appeared to be a knife. The subject ignored officers’ commands and began stabbing his father, at which point an OIS occurred. The subject was struck by gunfire and taken into custody.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced both the subject and the father deceased at the scene. No officers or additional community members were injured during the incident.

A pair of scissors and a kitchen knife were recovered at the scene and booked as evidence.

Robbery Homicide Division personnel responded and assumed investigative responsibility for the homicide, while Force Investigation Division personnel responded and assumed investigative responsibility for the OIS.
