Officer-Involved Shooting Involving Southwest Division NRF009-25ma

UPDATE

On Monday, March 17, 2025, the Chief of Police authorized the release of the officer’s name who was involved in an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Southwest Area. The involved officer is Southwest Area Police Officer III Dara Choub, Serial No. 38621.

Officer-Involved Shooting Involving Southwest Division

**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**

Los Angeles: On March 11, 2025, at approximately 6:50 pm, the suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Adrian Uribe, self-reported to 911 that he was armed with a grenade, a shotgun, was suicidal, and would shoot any police who approached his residence located in an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Scarff Street. Southwest Patrol Division officers responded to the location and were guided by citizens to Uribe’s residence. Officers set up containment around the location and made verbal contact with Uribe, who failed to obey officers’ commands and remained barricaded in his apartment.

Metropolitan Division Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) was requested to responded to the location to assist in the apprehension of Uribe. Before SWAT’s arrival, and as officers were attempting to negotiate with Uribe, he suddenly emerged from his apartment, holding what appeared to be a shotgun and pointed it toward officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). Uribe was not struck by gunfire and retreated into his apartment and continued to remain barricaded. SWAT officers subsequently arrived at the scene and formed a tactical plan. After continued negotiations and the release of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) vapor gas into his apartment, Uribe surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without further incident. Uribe was booked for 422(a)PC, Criminal Threats.

No officers or community members were injured during this incident. No evidence of explosives or ordinance were located during the investigation. A black and brown plastic replica gun was recovered at the scene and processed as evidence.

Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
